A British study shows that rock and roll has a positive impact on the efficiency of solar panels. The high frequencies and pitch found in rock music creates vibrations that increase the amount of energy created by solar panels by up to 40%. The team of scientists at Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College London discovered that sound levels as low as 75 decibels could significantly increase the solar efficiency of your panels. Therefore, simple daily noise from passing cars or air conditioners can help increase energy production.
To do our own rock and roll study, we are heading to Nashville for the Rock and Roll Marathon. Not only does rock and roll have a positive impact on solar efficiency, the Rock and Roll Marathon supports St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, positively impacting the lives of St. Jude’s children and families. Runners raise funds through out the year to help ensure that the patients and families of St. Jude’s never receive a bill for treatment.
We have an on-going commitment to supporting St. Jude’s and are excited about the opportunity to participate in this event. Please join us in supporting this amazing cause a make a small (or large!) donation to St. Jude's Children's hospital. As part of Zilla’s on-going commitment to community outreach and promoting an active lifestyle, we are key sponsors of the PSIMET/Zilla racing team. PSIMET/Zilla Racing a Denver-based cycling team that competes in Road, Cyclocross and Mountain Bike racing. Although our racers are extremely competitive and successful riders, the team motto is – Family. Fun. Integrity. These are values that we also embrace at Zilla, making us ideal teammates.
PSIMET/Zilla Racing travels all over Colorado and surrounding states to compete against other fierce racers, all while sporting the Zilla logo proudly. They have had a successful season so far with 37 podiums, over 100 top-10 finishes and nearly350 races completed. Earlier this month, we were lucky enough to cheer on PSIMET/Zilla Racing right in our backyard!
At Sonic Boom Race 2014, Zilla set up camp right along the course with our friends from Bolder Insurance. Equipped with signs, bells, horns, water (and beer), we cheered our racers on! While the final elite races were cancelled due to poor weather, Team Zilla kept the party going. Many racers hung out at the camp, enjoying free hotdogs, chips, beer, and of course, shelter from the rain.
There was one little racer who was not going to be stopped by the rain. Evan, the two-year-old son of one of the PSIMET/Zilla racers, embraced the rain and continued his “training.” Evan will be eligible for the little kid’s race next year and we will be there to cheer him on. Go Evan!
Rain or shine, win or lose, we had a great time cheering onthe PSIMET/Zilla team. Checkout where the team will be racing next!

The MVP of SPI was The Zilla Phantom, a revolutionary new pitched roof flush mounting system. This innovative product is fully flashed and rail-less making it one of the leading products in the league. The demand for rail-less racking system was much greater than Team Zilla had expected and reveled in the opportunity to share their rail-less with the solar industry.
Comprised of significantly less materials than traditional flush mount systems, The Phantom is easily packaged and can be effortlessly toted to and from job sites on a bike or even delivered right to your doorstep.Designed for pitched roofs, The Phantom easily attaches directly to sheathing. And did we mention no rails!
While The Phantom Rail-Less System was the clear champion at SPI 2013, Zilla offers a full lineup of innovative solar racking, mounting systems, flashings and components.

Summer is not far off here in sunny Colorado and it is time for Team Zilla to step away from their desks and up to the plate. As a fun way to start the weekend and relax with co-workers, Zilla’s warehouse manager, Adam Bower suggested a friendly softball league.
After kicking off the season on May 9, Team Zilla laces up every Friday to hit the field. The team has a “wide variety of skills,” says sales manager, Becca Penland. “It is fun to see co-workers who don’t know how to swing a bat in practice, hit doubles in games,” says Nikki Kreutzman. Sadly, the past two games have slipped through Team Zilla’s fingers, but there remains lots of upward potential.
Both Becca and Nikki played collegiate fast pitch. With another co-worker who played semi-professional baseball and several other collegiate athletes, half of Team Zilla had to turn down the intensity, while the less athletically inclined teammates had to turn it up. And turn it up they did! Last week, Ben Bryant, a solar engineer who prefers to focus on solar more than on softball, hit in many of the only runs and snagged the MVP trophy.
Zilla softball is a fun, team building activity that unifies the team both on and off the field. Zilla president, Lori Kreutzman also laces up her cleats and takes the field with the team. “It’s really fun to see your boss on the field instead of in the office,” says Becca.
Team Zilla’s season has just begun and will last until mid-August. Stay tuned for the future successes of the Zilla softball team!

This year, a few members of Team Zilla® participated in the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series in Nashville. As part of Zilla’s on-going support for St. Jude’s Children’s hospital, both Zilla President, Lori Beedon and Zilla COO, Kayla Kruetzman raised money for and participated in this year’s event.
This event combines three of Team Zilla’s favorite things: outdoor activities, philanthropy and fun! Kayla’s favorite part of the race was seeing hundreds of people come together to support the kids and families at St. Jude’s.
This aspect of the event is also important to Lori who says,“I love the part of the run when you think you can hardly take another step and someone with a disability runs past me! I totally get a new lease on life and continue to push through! All the while, everyone is running for the sake of the kids at St Jude’s!”
But don’t forget the fun! Both Kayla and Lori had a great time meeting and chatting with the other runners, enjoying the live music and bands and of course, relaxing post race with a frothy Bushwhaker (think frosty meets alcohol).
This is one of Team Zilla’s favorite philanthropy events and we are already looking forward to next year!
Checkout this video from SPI 2013, as Zilla's very own Becca Penland illustrates the ease of installing a Phantom rail-less system.
