Installer’s Responsibilities

Please read all instructions carefully before the installation of ZillaTM and NEX® products. The design and installation of the ZillaTM product line should comply with all building codes and regulations.  Improper installation of ZillaTM products, beyond that which they were designed, may result in the product warranty being nullified. The packing slip is included with your system, please take time to familiarize yourself with this list and its components. Should any parts be missing or damaged, contact your local NGE or ZillaTM vendor for replacement as soon as possible. It is the installer’s responsibility to comply with the following:

  • All applicable local or national building codes, including any that may supersede this manual
  • Ensuring that NGE and other products are appropriate for each particular installation and the installation environment
  • Ensuring that the roof, its rafters, connections, and other structural support members are able to support the system under all code conditions using ZillaTM parts and installer-supplied parts as specified by NGE (substitution of parts may void the warranty)
  • Ensuring that lag screws or anchoring bolts have adequate pullout strength and shear capacities as installed
  • Maintaining the waterproof integrity of the roof, including selection of appropriate flashing
  • Ensuring safe installation of electrical components in the racking system
  • Ensuring that correct and appropriate site specific design parameters are used in determining the anticipated design loading used for environmental variables, such as snow loading, maximum wind gusts, and topographic factors should be confirmed with local building officials or a licensed engineer.

Designing the System

NGE recommends the utilization of a qualified engineer to ensure correct design configurations and optimal installation procedures.

The procedure to determine Design Wind Load is specified by the American Society of Civil Engineers and referenced in the International Building Code 2006. While this manual is a general guideline for the installation of ZillaTM Rac. It is recommended that a qualified engineer be consulted in the design process. Below are method procedures basic to many racking situations.
